Music of Nauru

Nauru belongs to Micronesian part of the pacific islands, and thus it mostly shares a common heritage with the Micronesian countries. In Music, the majority of the musical work done is influence by the Micronesian culture.

Historical Background:
The Musical history of Nauru is not very good and there is nothing much saved of the old traditional music. Long ago when then Germans arrived at the Island and the Nauru Island had its annexation in 1888, the German colonial authorities placed a ban on the traditional dance of Nauru, due to which the Nauru traditional dances and music became quite rare, still the Nauran music is scantly recorded and documented partially through some mean or another.

Noted Contemporary Composer:
Baron Waga is a famous name in the modern music industry of Nauru, he is widely know across the region for his beautiful music composition. He has also served Nauru as a government minister.
